As I type these words from central New Hampshire, it is 11:04 a.m. on Monday December 30. The entire state is currently experiencing a winter storm that, as of right now where I am, consists of sleet and freezing rain. We are under a Winter Storm warning from now until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
I have not yet stepped foot outside, but there is already a clear accumulation of ice on tree limbs and other surfaces. As you know, ice is the worst. It makes for the most hazardous driving conditions and brings significant chance of power outages. For the moment, thankfully, there appears to be no wind. If that changes, however, things can get much worse. Tree branches, already heavy from the ice, could be easily broken in the wind. With broken branches comes downed power lines, and that is where the fun begins (exaggerated eye roll).
Wherever you are, I hope that you are safe and well-prepared should we lose power. If you need to go somewhere, don’t. Do it later. If you really have no choice, then use the utmost caution. Drive slowly. But seriously, you shouldn’t drive at all.
Mother Nature is sending us out of 2019 with some lousy weather. Let us hope that she brings in the new year with some great weather. Personally, I’m hoping for some good now. When I went out on the ski slopes the other day, the conditions were terrible. Many patches of brown grass instead of snow. So come on… enough of this ice, bring on the snow!
